REDUCING THE STIGMA

Tagged as
Dr. Scot Bay, a board certified psychiatrist, discusses current topics in mental health with the goal of better informing the general public regarding psychiatric illness, reducing the stigma surrounding psychiatric diagnosis and treatment, and exploding myths and stereotypes about the mentally ill.  Topics include the latest findings of medical research into the causes and potential new treatments for mental illness, current events and controversies in the news relating to mental health, children’s mental health, military and veterans’ mental health, and stress in the workplace.  Dr. Bay also takes listener phone calls, addressing questions with advice based on sound science, and most of all, with compassion.

Scot Bay MD is a board certified in psychiatrist, educated at the University of Rochester and New York Medical College. He completed his residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City. He was clinical director of an outpatient clinic at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison, New York until 1995 when he moved to Columbus, Georgia, where he was in private practice and was an assistant medical director at the Bradley Center of St. Francis.  He has been in full-time private practice in Roswell, Georgia since 1998.  Dr. Bay specializes in the evaluation and management of mood, anxiety, and attention disorders. He has special interests and expertise in psychopharmacology. He has extensive experience with numerous psychiatric medications and has lectured all over the Southeast regarding practical and innovative uses of psychiatric medications.  His long-running “Psychiatry Today with Dr. Scot” was among the top-rated mental health podcasts.  In a weekly Internet radio call-in show, Dr. Bay discussed current topics in mental health and took listener phone calls, with the goal of promoting wider knowledge of mental health issues and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.  Dr. Bay focuses on the importance of exercise, diet and integrative approaches in maintaining mental health.  Currently Dr. Bay is incorporating probiotics in the treatment of mood disorders.
